The one who hears the problem
Before a system is proposed we spend time on the floor, with the people actually working the shift. The specification comes from there, not from a meeting.
Company
Hardening S.r.l. has worked in industrial automation since 2002. We build the layer that sits between the plant on the floor and the systems that administer it.
The common thread
Below are the machines’ PLCs; above, the ERP or the MES. What is almost always missing in between is something that speaks both languages and takes responsibility for what passes through. That is what we have been building for over twenty years, changing only the machine at the far end.
Against delegating the same functions to a PLC, this approach wins on computing power, freedom of programming, and the ability to integrate different devices. It also reduces — often removes — the development needed on the machine side and on the management side.
What we have built
Each of these is a product running in real plants.
Guided or unmanned movement for overhead cranes in steel: coil search, force analysis across the stack, operator traceability. On new or existing cranes.
Read morePlant performance, performance ratio, field measurements to locate faults. We also operate and maintain several photovoltaic parks ourselves.
Read moreDigital productivity control for sheet-metal service centres: the state, speed and output of every cut-to-length line and slitter, in real time, on a three-colour logic.
Standalone bridging systems between the customer’s ERP or MES and the machine PLCs, with a user interface and, where needed, barcode readers or cameras.
Reads and answers questions on company documents, and reads sensors and cameras to produce information useful for operator safety and for logistics.
Meters and power analysers on every line, recorded to a server with reports and alarms. Extendable to water and gas, and also used to read machine productivity.
How we work
The trouble with consultants is that they tell you sound things you already knew. The trouble with engineers is that they build perfectly, but only if someone walks them step by step through what is actually needed. We keep both, trained on the same problem.
Before a system is proposed we spend time on the floor, with the people actually working the shift. The specification comes from there, not from a meeting.
Design and development stay in-house: whoever heard the problem sits in the same room as whoever writes the code.
Technical consultancy
Alongside the systems, we put the same technical competence at the disposal of anyone who has to prove something — to the tax authority or in a dispute.
Verification and attestation of conformity in the form of a sworn appraisal: it states that the asset meets the requirements of Italian Law 232 of 11 December 2016 and therefore qualifies for the tax benefits attached to it.
We work alongside a company’s legal department in disputes with suppliers or public bodies, on the ground we know: how the plant actually behaves.
